A ratio compares two quantities. The ratio 3:2 means for every 3 of one thing there are 2 of another.
Find the GCD of both numbers and divide both by it. For 12:8, GCD is 4, giving simplified ratio 3:2.
Multiply or divide both parts by the same number. The ratio 3:2 scaled by 4 becomes 12:8.
In A:B = C:D, use cross-multiplication. If 3:4 = 9:?, then ? = (4x9)/3 = 12.
A ratio compares two quantities (3:2). A proportion states that two ratios are equal (3:2 = 6:4).
Common financial ratios include Price-to-Earnings, Debt-to-Equity, and Current Ratio.
For ratio 3:2, first part = 3/(3+2) = 60%, second part = 2/(3+2) = 40%.
Both quantities are equal — one of each for every one of the other.
